CEO of Micromax India, Deepak Mehrotra leaves company

Micromax CEO, Deepak Mehrotra has quit the company. He had joined the company in December 2011 as a part of Micromax investors’ efforts to bring more professional experience in the top management. During that phase it had also hired senior executives from companies like HTC and Sony Ericsson to drive its smartphone strategy. Prior to Micromax, Mehrotra was a director at Airtel. He will be taking over the India managing director role at Pearson starting October 21. Micromax has confirmed the development.

The timing could not have been worse for Micromax with its co-founder Rajesh Agarwal having to step down from his official duties in August after he was allegedly caught bribing an MCD official. However, Micromax has now become the second largest smartphone brand in India by shipments with 22 percent of the market share. It has roped in Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador for its upcoming flagship Canvas Turbo smartphone.
