Mad Catz android gaming console coming December 10th for $249.99 to take on Xbox, Playstation

The explosive growth of mobile gaming, particularly on Android devices, has opened the door for video game companies to take an established, open source ecosystem and design consoles around it. Ouya became the first high-profile launch earlier this year and others have followed. Now Mad Catz, most well known for third-party controllers and accessories, has revealed the details for its own M.O.J.O. micro-console. M.O.J.O. will feature a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 Processor, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The controller (dubbed the C.T.R.L.R Mobile Gamepad) will also be included in the box, along with an AC adapter and HDMI cable.

Although Ouya jumped off the shelves when it launched, the company has struggled with public relations mishaps and a noticeable lack of software sales ever since. Ouya at least had the luxury of hitting the market before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but M.O.J.O.’s December release date might make this Android console a tough sell for wallet-depleted gamers.

There’s no question that Mad Catz is offering a more powerful console (with a more familiar controller), but Ouya has not proven that the “micro-console” marketplace is ready for prime time quite yet. The M.O.J.O. micro-console will be available on December 10th for $249.99, and can now be preordered directly from Mad Catz.
