In a rare move, Apple could increase prices of its products in India starting October, multiple sources have told us. The hike is currently seen as Apple’s response to the weak Indian Rupee. Apple rarely increases prices of its products and usually increases prices of new products in order to absorb any losses in margins due to foreign exchange rates. Apple demonstrated that by launching its new iMacs starting from Rs 99,900 this week. Earlier, its iMac range started from Rs 85,900.
Apple’s distributors have stopped billing vendors for any product including accessories. Our sources have been tipped that the price hike could range between 15-30 percent, depending on the product. Of course, we do not have any official statement from Apple on the expected hike in prices. However, one of our sources at Apple insisted that the hike is likely to be limited to the iMac range and is unlikely to be implemented on MacBooks, iPads or iPods.
