Samsung is planning to launch a smartphone with a curved display in October, Reuters reports. We have already seen curved screens on Samsung smartphones like the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus, but this time around one expects the next evolution in curved screens, that comprise of bendable and foldable designs that will allows users to adapt their smartphone as a wearable accessory. Samsung already showed a prototype smartphone with a curved screen at CES 2013.
The report quotes Samsung Mobile business head of strategic marketing D.J. Lee, stating, “We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October.”
Samsung is yet to produce a mass-market commercial product as companies have not yet figured out a way to mass-produce curved glass displays. In the TV market, Samsung and LG have released massive curved glass TVs, but we are yet to see a product to have the same technology in a much smaller mobile form factor.
