iPhone 5s launch leads to 210% increase in Samsung’s Galaxy Smartphone trade-ins

There’s no telling exactly how much business Apple’s latest iPhone models will draw away from rival vendors. If a new report from gadget recycling specialist Gazelle is any indication, however, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are indeed pulling customers away from Apple’s competition. According to data provided to TUAW, Gazelle saw a monstrous 210% increase in the number of Samsung phones traded in using its service during the new iPhones’ launch weekend. Overall, Gazelle said it handled about four times more trade-ins during this past weekend than it did during last year’s iPhone 5 launch. That makes sense, of course, since Apple announced that it sold a record-smashing 9 million new iPhones through the end of their debut weekend.
