YouTube mobile apps to get “offline viewing” support in November

According to the official announcement post, the “upcoming feature will allow people to add videos to their device to watch for a short period when an Internet connection is unavailable.” It’s not clear exactly how short that “short period” will be, though knowing Google’s strict YouTube policies, I wouldn’t be surprised if the offline videos expired within a day or two. The offline video feature seems to be an extension of the pre-loading feature on the Android app, which loads a video and lets users watch it even if they lose an internet connection, provided they started the particular video online. The updated app will likely be released for Android first, followed by iOS, though we’ll have to wait for details on how exactly offline video is going to work.
