Instagram adds 50 million users in six months, crosses the 150 million mark

Popular mobile photo and video sharing app Instagram today announced today it has crossed the 150 million users mark. What’s more, nearly 50 million users joined in the last six months.

After Facebook acquired Instagram, the service has grown from strength to strength, despite competition from Twitter’s Vine. Back in February, Instagram crossed 100 million monthly users and only six months later it surpassed 150 million users. In comparison, Vine surpassed 40 million users in the seven months since its launch.

The company noted that more than 60 percent of its users are from outside the United States, which is a sign of the app’s global appeal. If the app continues to grow at this pace, it could surpass the 200 million mark within the next six months.
