Microsoft is expected to release an update to Windows Phone 8 called General Distribution Release 3 (GDR3) that will bring support for quad-core Qualcomm chipsets and 1080p displays like the one seen on the Nokia 1520 aka Bandit. Today details of new features have been revealed thanks to a trove of screenshots on WPCentral Forums when a user was able to snap a Lumia 920 running the upcoming software update.
Nokia will release the update under a peculiar Lumia Bittersweet shimmer name. The screenshots show the update will bring the ability to close apps running in the background as well as a screen orientation lock. It will also add new Driving Mode features that will bring the ability to mute calls and text messages when the phone is connected to Bluetooth. Users will also be able to set customized ring tones for calls, emails, voice mails and text messages. The update will bring back the ability to restore a reset device over Wi-Fi.
