CSR announces the world’s thinnest wireless touch surface

CSR, the brand behind the design of the Nike+, has revealed the thinnest wireless surface that can be used as a keyboard. The wireless surface has a thickness of just 0.5mm, and connects using Bluetooth LE.

At the IFA in Berlin, CSR announced the world’s thinnest surface that can be used as a keyboard for connecting to devices like mobiles and tablets. Bluetooth Smart-enabled surface can be used to wirelessly extend the touch interface of mobile devices and computers. At a thickness of just 0.5mm, this surface is six times thinner than Microsoft’s Touch Cover.

The touch surface can be reconfigured for various use cases. It can function as a keyboard for a tablet, then double as a smart cover. Users can also use the surface for touch-based gestures like swipe, pinch and zoom. The surface connects to iOS 6 and Android 4.x mobile devices as well as Windows 8 PCs. CSR claims that the surface has a latency of less than 12 ms.

CSR mentioned that it working in conjunction with Atmel and Conductive Inkjet Technology to manufacture the wireless surface. Paul Williamson, Director of Low Power Wireless at CSR said during the announcement, “Consumers want innovative, portable wireless accessories that just work with their mobile devices. The ultra-thin touch surface we’ve developed is a perfect example of how Bluetooth Smart can give them just that. We’re committed to working collaboratively with developers using the CSR µEnergy platform to help them bring similar next-generation accessories to the market quickly.”
